A Hockey Busy Weekend
This weekends round up
1sts: The college girls travelled to Farmers Cross this weekend for a derby battle facing an on form Quins side. Harlequins struck twice in the second half to secure themselves 3 points. It was a very tight game with most of it played in the middle third of the pitch. Kate Murphy made a great save from Irish international cliodhna Sargent just before the half time mark leaving it 0-0 and all to play for. Quins had more of the play in the 3rd quarter where Olivia Roycroft former UCC captain scored from a corner leaving it 1-0. The final quarter UCC really pushed on creating chances in front of the goal as well as 2 corners but unfortunately were unable to capitalise! The last few minutes saw another save from goalkeeper Murphy but Quins struck again on the rebound and made it 2-0.
3rds: Great win for ladies thirds despite being short a few players. UCC were away to Quins and managed to come away with a 2-0 win and put another 3 points on the league table!!
2 lovely goals put away by fresher Kate Passmore and very strong performances also from Suzy Pratt, Maggie Byrne and another one of our freshers Una O’Neill!
Thirds have 2 weekends off now, their first break since September so will be focusing on what they can improve on between now and their next game!
5ths: Sunday’s div 5 home game UCC vs Tipp was close from the beginning. UCC’s Heather Morgan started the game off with a great break from tip off and a shot on goal. This was wide however. UCC held their own keeping it 0-0 at half time. The girls were stronger and even more determined in the second half with Eabha O Brien, Tara Mc Guire and Emma o Sullivan holding the back line. UCC had many attempts on goal but unfortunately could not finish. Until the last 30 seconds of the game when Siofra Murphy scored a beautiful last minute goal from play. This was a well deserved win for the 5ths who have been training hard since the beginning of September.
Congrats to all involved and to the teams who won!!
