The Perfect 10 for UCC MHC

Just 72 hours after being embarrassed against Bandon the UCC men’s firsts took on Ashton in the cup. It was back to winning ways in stylish fashion with a 10-0 win. The scoring started inside the first 90 seconds when Shrew Power reversed home after a nice passing move from Glenn Healy and Captain Fionn O’Leary.
The second didn’t come until the 20 minute mark when Greg chambers finished a similar move with his first touch of the game. He doubled his own tally only a bit later with a short corner rebound at the back post. It finished 3-0 at half time.

Andy Colton got his first goal when he found himself unmarked at the penalty spot. Ex UCC player Graham Catchpole, who was playing against both his brother was looking the liveliest player for Ashton. They then got their first chance of the game with a short corner but this was coolly parried away by Peter Coulter in goal in the 45th minute.
2 goals in quick succession made sure there was no way back for Ashton. A low drag from Colton followed by the pick of the night by Greg Chambers as he got his hat trick.
Chambers didn’t stop there as is swiped at another rebound and saw it into the net to make it 7-0 his 4th of the night.
Peter Catchpole got in on the act as well followed by Andy Colton who also finished off his hat trick. Sam Grace got the 10th on the final whistle from a switch move at a short corner.
Coach Neil Welch will be happy with how clinical his team was especially after the disappointment of the Bandon game only a few days earlier. It will be another short turn around for them as they take on Limerick in the league on Saturday.

The seconds also found themselves in midweek action. It was a top of the table clash in Midleton for them. The sides hadn’t met since a lee season encounter which was a closely fought game so the same was expected on Wednesday night. The seconds not only kept their first clean sheet of the season, they also scored a flurry of goals in a 6-0 dismantling of Midleton in East Cork.
Mark Horgan opened the scoring with a powerful strike in the first ten minutes. Andrew McGregor scored the second with a great touch after a broken down corner to leave it 2-0 to the students at the break. Nathan Gokul made it 3-0 after a good passing move and Greg Chambers scored a stroke, won by Paul Holland, to make it 4-0. Brandon McEvoy hit home after a searing solo run from left back for 5-0 and Mark Horgan finished of the scoring with a skilful through-the-legs deflection into the far corner.
Dan Moore continued his unbelievable form in goal. The seconds now top the league a point ahead of Midleton and on goal difference to Bandon but with a game in hand.
